CRNA: RN Permit Approved with Conditions

Under delegated authority from the Registration Committee, the CRNA has reviewed your application and approved your practice permit with the following condition:

• Currency of practice submission required

Meeting the Condition

The RN currency of practice requirement is demonstrated by confirmation of at least 1125 hours of nursing practice within the previous five practice years or at least 450 hours of nursing practice within the previous two practice years. Once you have met this requirement, arrange for your employer(s) to send confirmation of your practice hours.

When applying to renew your practice permit, please attest to whether you meet the currency of practice requirement. The College may request evidence of currency of practice satisfactory to the registrar.

Documents for meeting the condition and confirmation of practice hours may be emailed to casemanagement@nurses.ab.ca or faxed to 780-443-6582.

Your application for registration and practice permit was approved for the following reasons:

• Currency of practice is a legislated requirement

Authority of the Registration Committee

The authority of registration committee decisions is found in the Health Professions Act (HPA), Registered Nurses Profession Regulation (Regulation), CRNA Bylaws and Registration Committee Policies. Section 40 of the HPA authorizes registration committee to determine eligibility for a practice permit. The requirement to renew the permit is found in section 38 of the HPA and section 21 of the Regulation. The Bylaws specify annual permit expiry of September 30 and requirements for renewal. Right to Request a Review

A decision to defer, refuse registration or to impose conditions on a registration and practice permit is subject to review by the registration review committee. Should you wish to request a review of this decision, please follow the requirements that are provided in section 41 of the HPA (see attached “HPA Section 41 Review by Council”).
